Thermal performance fabrics

Solar control through textile design

Our thermal fabrics are designed to help reduce solar heat gains through windows, contributing to improved indoor thermal comfort. The textile works together with the glazing as part of the complete solar-control system, combining functional performance with the aesthetic qualities required for contemporary interiors.

Tested thermal performance

Solar transmittance and reflectance of the fabric are measured and used to calculate the total solar energy transmittance (gtot) of the combined glazing and internal fabric system according to EN ISO 52022-1, with performance evaluated according to EN 14501:2021.

Understanding gtot

The gtot value indicates the proportion of solar energy that enters the interior through the complete glazing and fabric system. The lower the gtot value, the greater the solar protection. This provides specifiers with an objective method for evaluating the contribution of an internal textile solar-protection system.

Fabric and glazing work together

Thermal performance cannot be considered independently from the window. The same fabric can produce different gtot results depending on the glazing configuration with which it is combined. For this reason, our thermal performance is evaluated with different reference glazing configurations, including single, double, solar-control and triple glazing.

Solar protection and indoor comfort

Large glazed surfaces provide natural light and architectural transparency but can also increase solar heat gains. Internal curtains can contribute to controlling incoming solar energy and improving thermal comfort while maintaining the flexibility, softness and decorative qualities of a textile solution.

Multifunctional thermal fabrics

Selected Aznar Textil thermal fabrics combine solar-control properties with other technical characteristics including flame retardancy, acoustic performance, blackout, dimout, recycled content and IMO certification. This multifunctional approach makes it possible to address several contract requirements within the same fabric.
