Velvet
A fabric originally made from cotton, although it is now also produced using blends of natural and synthetic fibres or 100% polyester, to suit different requirements in terms of durability and finish.

It is manufactured on 140 cm wide machines, and its main use is in upholstery, where its soft, luxurious texture is appreciated, although it is also used in the manufacture of garments and decorative textiles.

Its structure is formed by two wefts and a warp: one weft forms the base of the fabric, whilst the other is cut to raise the pile, thus creating the characteristic velvety, dense and lustrous surface.
