Satin is a fabric produced using a satin weave, characterised by a smooth, lustrous and silky face, and a matt, rougher reverse. This effect is achieved because the fine, dense warp threads float over the weft for several picks before interlacing, reducing the binding points and maximising light reflection.
Satin can be manufactured from various fibres — silk, polyester, cotton, viscose or blends — and each composition gives the fabric different properties. In interior decoration, satin is synonymous with luxury and sophistication, used in curtains, cushions, headboards and accessories where a glossy finish and fluid drape are desired.

Satin in hospitality and contract decoration projects
In the contract sector, satin is particularly used in curtains for high-end hotels, suites and reception areas where the initial visual impression is decisive. Its lustre brings warmth and refinement to the interior design, complementing more opaque or textured fabrics.
For hotel applications, polyester or polyester-cotton satin is more practical than silk, offering greater abrasion resistance, dimensional stability and ease of industrial washing. Fire-retardant treated satins meet the fire safety certifications mandatory in the EU for contract fabrics, including M1, B1 and Class 1.
Contract upholstery fabrics in satin are also used in decorative cushions, pillowcases and upholstered headboards, where their soft hand feel and luxurious finish elevate the guest experience.
