Polyester: the Reference Technical Fibre in Contract Fabrics for Decoration and Hospitality
03/01/2022
Polyester (PES) is the most widely used synthetic fibre in the global textile industry and the backbone of contract fabrics for decoration. It is produced through the polymerisation of ethylene glycol terephthalate, a petroleum derivative, yielding a continuous filament that can be cut into staple fibre or used directly as filament.
Its technical properties make it the ideal fibre for the contract sector: high abrasion and tensile resistance, excellent dimensional stability, UV light resistance, easy washing and quick drying, low moisture absorption and strong recyclability. Moreover, polyester can be inherently flame retardant (PES FR), a decisive property for hospitality textiles.
