Polyamide (Nylon): Extreme Resistance in Technical Fabrics for Decoration and Contract
Polyamide (PA), commercially known as nylon, is a synthetic fibre obtained through the polymerisation of a diamine and a dicarboxylic acid. It is distinguished by its exceptional mechanical strength — it is the textile fibre with the highest tenacity — great elasticity, abrasion resistance and low weight. These properties make it a benchmark fibre for technical and high-performance applications.

In interior decoration, polyamide is primarily used in carpets, fitted carpets, high-traffic upholstery and technical fabrics where wear resistance is the absolute priority.

Polyamide in high-traffic contract fabrics

The contract sector demands fabrics capable of withstanding intensive, continuous use. Polyamide excels in upholstery applications for conference chairs, cinema seats, hotel carpets and textile coverings in high-traffic areas. Its abrasion resistance far exceeds the levels recommended for commercial upholstery.

In blends with polyester, polyamide contributes elasticity and strength without losing the dimensional stability required by the hospitality sector. When buying contract upholstery fabric with polyamide, it is important to verify the Martindale test (abrasion cycles) and applicable fire behaviour certificates.
