Wool: Natural Insulation and Resilience in Fabrics for Decoration and Contract
Wool (WO) is an animal fibre obtained primarily from sheep fleece, though also from goats (mohair, cashmere), alpacas, vicuñas and other camelids. It is distinguished by its unique properties: excellent thermal insulation, high elasticity, natural fire and stain resistance, and the ability to absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet.

These characteristics make wool an exceptional material for interior decoration, particularly in upholstery, rugs, curtains and decorative fabrics where thermal comfort and durability are priorities.

Wool in contract upholstery fabrics and hotel projects

In the contract sector, wool is valued for its natural fire resistance — it chars rather than melts, without producing flaming drops — an intrinsic property that facilitates compliance with fire safety certifications mandated in the EU for contract fabrics. Wool also displays notable abrasion resistance and elastic recovery, allowing upholstery fabrics to maintain their shape after years of use.

In hotel projects, wool fabrics provide visual warmth and acoustic comfort, helping to create welcoming and quiet environments. When buying contract upholstery fabric in wool, it is important to consider composition (pure wool or blends with polyester or nylon), fabric weight and stain-resistant finishes.
