Devore: the Semi-transparent Fabric Technique with Relief Motifs for Sheers and Curtains
18/12/2021
Devore (or burnout) is a textile technique in which chemicals are applied to a flat fabric of mixed composition — typically polyester/viscose or polyester/cotton — to selectively dissolve the cellulosic fibres (viscose or cotton), leaving the polyester fibres intact. The result is a fabric with denser, opaque areas alongside semi-transparent zones, creating patterns with a distinctive relief and transparency effect.
This technique produces sheers and curtains with decorative motifs integrated into the fabric structure, offering a refined and singular aesthetic that combines the partial privacy of a sheer with the visual richness of a decorative fabric.
